Principal Welcome Letter

I want to welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year!

As we embark on the 2024-2025 school year, we want to assure you that your child's success is our top priority. We have spent the summer preparing to provide the best possible academic, social, and emotional support. The teachers and staff eagerly await the return of our students, ready to work together to ensure a successful year at West High.

  • Enroll in a (2-4) year college or trade school.
  • Enlist in the Armed Forces.
  • Or secure Employment upon graduating high school.

Your child’s success is essential to us. I want you to know that we have many partnerships, activities, and clubs to keep your child engaged and motivated. Studies show that students who participate in after-school programs experience far greater success than those who do not. With that said, West High is a comprehensive school that offers the following: Accelerated Courses, ACT Prep, Academic Clubs, After-school tutoring, Athletic sports, Grade level support, including assistant principals Mr. Snow - grades (7-8), Mr. Shepard - grades (9-10), Ms. Colon grades (11-12), Counselors Ms. Classetti grade (9) Ms. Garlington grade (10), Mr. McAleenan (11-12), and Mrs. Gray (Graduation Counselor). Besides the staff discussed above, additional staff is accessible to help your child.

Attendance

At Western Hills High School, we place a high value on regular school attendance. All students are expected to attend school every day and all scheduled classes. School starts promptly at 8:00 am and dismisses at 3:00 pm. Research consistently shows that students with chronic absences achieve lower academic success and graduation rates. If your child is unable to attend school due to illness, please call the attendance line at (513) 363-8905.

Closed Campus

Western Hills is a closed campus. Students must stay on campus during the school day. Door Dash and other fast food delivery options are prohibited.

Code of Conduct

Please review the CPS Code of Conduct. Students must enter through the front exterior doors of Western Hills High School. Any student who opens exterior doors without authorization will receive consequences.

Dress Code

Students must adhere to the dress code outlined in the Student Handbook. Students who violate the dress code will be asked to change and will not be allowed to attend class. We ask that you partner with us to alleviate all dress code violations. Administration and staff members will monitor the dress code.

Schedules

Students will receive their schedules during the orientation on August 11, 2023. Students who cannot attend the orientation will receive a schedule on the first day of school. If transcripts from the previous school are not sent promptly, students will receive a mock schedule.

Transportation

Updates will be provided during student orientation.

In closing, we want all West High students to experience success. Please partner with us as we work collaboratively to help your child excel during the 2024-2025 academic school year. If you have any questions, please contact the main office at (513) 363-8900.

Sincerely,

Dr. Carlos Blair, Principal
